Op. 49
New Edition!
New 2020 edition now available: carefully revised and fully typeset.
This short overture, which parallels some of the traditional circus acts (for example trapeze, jugglers, clowns etc.), is a tribute to, and an affectionate parody of, a long lost and much missed musical genre.
First performed by Wantage Silver Band in July 1983.
The Circus won the Eric Coates Prize for Composition, at the Royal Academy of Music, London in 1981 in its original scoring for light orchestra.
This new edition of The Circus for Brass Band (SP129), is published as part of Spartan’s 30th birthday celebrations during 2020 and replaces the legacy ‘Facsimile Edition’ of 1990.
Duration: approximately 4 minutes.

Review
Mark Goddard has a sense of humour impish in places and this was evident in his lighthearted piece titled “The Circus”.
